INTRODUCTION +-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+ Howdy. Thanks for clicking that download link for this thing. I put together this archive of GameFAQs documents for several reasons: 1. GameFAQs was bought out by Fandom in 2022. Fandom is a pioneer of enshittification. 2. A lot of newer or younger Guilty Gear fans either don't know about GameFAQs, don't have the patience to navigate the site to find the GG stuff, or just never thought to. 3. I deeply enjoy archiving and disseminating difficult to access materials with the community. 4. Idk it just seemed like fun lol The archive for these documents (if you somehow found this .TXT out in the wild somewhere) can be accessed on my website over here: https://solradguy.neocities.org/gamefaqs/FAQsDirectory +-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+ + II. THE FAQ +-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+ === How many unique guides are in this archive? ====================================================== ====================================================================================================== There are 178 total - but 121 unique - guides. 57 of those are repeated across multiple consoles/systems. === What consoles/systems are represented? =========================================================== ====================================================================================================== PC PlayStation 1 PlayStation 2 PlayStation 3 PlayStation Portable Dreamcast Xbox Xbox 360 Gameboy Advance Nintendo DS Wii At least 1 arcade cabinet (probably a Naomi one) === What games are represented? ====================================================================== ====================================================================================================== Missing Link GGX GGX+ GGX Advance GGXX (aka X2) GGXX #RELOAD GGXX SLASH GGXXAC GGXXAC+ Dust Strikers Judgment Isuka Overture Xrd Sign There are some guides under the PC section listed as being for GGXXAC+R but they're just GGXXAC+ guides. They were put under a +R heading for accuracy with how they were listed on GameFAQS. I don't know how they ended up in the +R section. Typo probably. === What's the deal with Fandom, Inc.? =============================================================== ====================================================================================================== Fandom, Inc. has a history of buying up beloved fan-run websites and making them hostile to its users. Wikia was formed in 2004 (as Wikicities), then in 2016 it rebranded to "Fandom." During those 12 years it became the go-to platform for hosting wikis, hyper-specific encyclopedias for different kinds of media (video games, YouTubers, movies/TV shows, communities, etc). But in 2018 Fandom was bought by TPG Capital.[1] Until this point, Fandom was mostly alrgiht. They'd made some changes people weren't very keen about but the sites were at least usable. Since then, the sites have slowly been increasingly overrun with invasive advertisements, poor UI/backend changes no one asked for, and asinine policites.[2][3] Many users struggle loading the Fandom-hosted wikis, let alone editing or contributing to them, and some cannot access the sites at all without an adblocker installed.[4][5] These ads can range from what you would probably expect to find on a wiki - ads for games or recent TV shows - to autoplaying clickbait ads that cover the entire screen. Because Fandom was the *only* wiki hosting platform for so long, their SEO* is incredibly good and will push other wikis out of search results, even if those other wikis are higher quality. Fandom knows this continues to ignore user feedback, choosing instead to shovel ads and adding useless features (like comments sections) to pages in an effort to raise page engagement and ad revenue. Their mission is NOT to be a platform for unbiased sharing of information or to be a place for communities of shared interests to gather. Fandom has slowly been doing this to GameFAQs since their acquisition of it in 2022.[6] GameFAQs users were already aware of Fandom's reputation in 2022 when this happened and accurately predicted what would become of their site.[7] tl;dr: Fandom just wants money, doesn't care about its users, and wants to monopolize the concept of "fandom" itself. *Search Engine Optimization 1. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fandom_(website)#History 2. https://www.koopatv.org/2022/10/why-people-dont-like-fandom-wikis.html 3. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qcfuA_UAz3I 4. https://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=33067381 5. https://www.reddit.com/r/wikia/comments/14u6e32/why_is_fandom_so_slow/ 6. https://www.reddit.com/r/gamefaqs/comments/17ra100/fandom_ruining_the_site/ 7. https://gamefaqs.gamespot.com/boards/234547-super-smash-bros-ultimate/80185850 === What about the Guilty Gear Wiki and other wikis? ================================================= ====================================================================================================== Good news: Information hosted on publicly accessible wikis are copyrighted under CC BY-SA,[1][2] meaning anyone can freely copy and edit that information as long as credit is given to the original platform/author. This is true for information hosted by both Wikipedia and Fandom too.[3] This means that it's possible to "fork" a wiki off that platform. That is, take all of the pages and files, rehost it on a new platform, and continue editing and working on it from there. The Guilty Gear Wiki forked off of the one hosted by Fandom starting November 2023. You can visit it on its new host with wiki.gg over here: https://guiltygear.wiki.gg/wiki/Guilty_Gear_Wiki On the bottom of any page that was created before the fork, you can see the credit given to the original Fandom wiki. Here's the one on the "Guilty Gear" (Missing Link, 1998) page: Pages that were created prior to November 2023 are from the Fandom Guilty Gear Wiki. Page content is under the Creative Commons Attribution-ShareAlike 4.0 License [CC BY-SA] unless otherwise noted. https://guiltygear.wiki.gg/wiki/Guilty_Gear#References This is in the footer just under the References section. We began work on the fork in November '23, while the wiki itself went public March 25, 2024. [1] CC BY-SA definition: https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by-sa/4.0/deed.en [2] https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia:Copyrights#Contributors'_rights_and_obligations [3] https://www.fandom.com/licensing === What are some other wiki hosts? ================================================================== ====================================================================================================== Some wikis choose independent hosting - paying and maintaining a server and website independently instead of trusting a 3rd party host. The Guilty Gear Wiki went with a 3rd party host because server and maintenance costs would not have been possible for the small size of our community to afford consistently. Almost all wikis, indie or otherwise, are powered by the MediaWiki software: https://www.mediawiki.org/wiki/MediaWiki Here is a small list of possible 3rd party hosts (there are many out there): https://wiki.gg https://miraheze.org/ https://www.wikidot.com/ It's not a host, but BreezeWiki allows you to view a Fandom wiki without all the clutter in the way: https://breezewiki.com/ === Back to the archive: What's going on with that page code ========================================= ====================================================================================================== OK, SO. Some of these guides are the same across consoles. For example, GGXXAC+ guide 56463 is in the Xbox 360, Wii, PS2, PSP, and PC sections despite being the exact same guide under each of those sections. I wanted to include the guide under each section but I didn't want to have to copy-paste the info block for it each time or have to remember to replace it in every instance on the page if I wanted to change something about it later. Originally, I tried using iframes to do this with the info blocks being hosted on their own pages that the iframe would draw the data from, but this ended up being impossible to code and I got really annoyed. I ended up finding a solution that combines
