INTRODUCTION This is a Story Mode FAQ for the game Guilty Gear X+, which is the enhanced version of Guilty Gear X that was released for the PS2. Although my previous Additions FAQ and bungiefan's Changes FAQ cover the changes between GGX and GGX+ fairly well, there has never been a full translation of the Story Mode of GGX+ before, hence the need for this FAQ. This FAQ is only about Story Mode, so it will cover each character's mode, the paths they go on and how to get each of their endings, and finally it will have a full translation of all the text in their Story Mode for all you Guilty Gear fans who don't own (or do own but don't read Japanese) the game. 2. STORY MODE PATHS Here is each character's story mode paths and how you can get their endings. Most characters have only two endings but Sol, Ky, and Dizzy have three apiece. Kliff and Justice cannot be used in Story Mode and thus, do not have a path. (After all, they're supposed to be dead). Unfortunately, his last battle is with a Gold Sol, and you only get one chance to see Ending 1 (by winning). If you're good with Anji, try to trap Sol in a corner and chip him to death; if not, try for an Instant Kill. As the chart says, if you've used a continue up to that point, you'll get sent to the left-hand path, UNLESS you redeem yourself by winning with a perfect against Sol. However, instant kill Sol (if you fail the first time, lose on purpose and just continue), and Johnny will decide he has to intervene, cutting you off and taking you to the lefthand path. "Warrior's shadow"? Or has Chipp just taken one too many drugs? In the fight with Faust, you'll actually both have Gold powers, so its easy to win - but doing so ends story mode prematurely and takes you to Ending 1. In the fight with Johnny, winning normally takes you to Ending 2, but winning with the round timer at a multiple of 11 (so anywhere from 00-88, though winning by Time Up doesn't count) will take you to the rather unusual Ending 3. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ FAUST ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ 1-1 Ky | 1-2 Baiken | 1-3 Millia | 1-4 Venom | ------------------------------------ | | (instant killed either (otherwise) Millia or Venom) | | | 2-5 Zato-1 1-5 Sol | | Ending 2 1-6 Testament | 1-7 Dizzy | Ending 1 Faust sets out to help Dizzy, but IK either Millia or Venom, and he'll run into Zato-1 instead. Since Millia comes earlier than Venom, the computer's AI isn't as good and it's easier to hit Faust's less-than- spectacular IK on her. If you do get to the Zato-1 fight, you'll both have Gold powers - which for Faust just means repeated meteor throwing will guarantee your victory. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ JAM KURADOBERI ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ 1-1 Johnny | 1-2 Venom | 1-3 Potemkin | 1-4 Ky | 1-5 Testament | 1-6 Dizzy | ----------------------- | | (no continues) (continues) | | Ending 1 Ending 2 Jam's story mode path is very simple, with only whether you used continues or not having any impact on which ending you get - there are no branches or special circumstances. If you've forgotten whether you used continues or not, the last battle with Dizzy is a clue. If the battle starts normally, you're on your way to seeing Ending 1 as long as you beat Dizzy without continuing. However, if the battle with Dizzy starts with a special intro sequence, then you've already used a continue and you'll see Ending 2 unless you start over. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ JOHNNY ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ 1-1 Jam | 1-2 Sol | 1-3 Millia | 1-4 Ky | 1-5 May | ---------------------------- | | (win) (lose) | | 1-6 Testament 2-6 Potemkin | | 1-7 Dizzy Ending 2 | Ending 1 Predictably, Johnny's branch point is with May. To match up against Robo Ky, lose to Millia at least once, then beat her once you've continued. To be on the path to fight Sol as your last opponent (who will be gold, if you're on the path to Ending 3), you must proceed without continuing until you've won against Testament - you can continue after that point with no problems. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ MAY ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ 1-1 Ky | 1-2 Chipp | 1-3 Millia | 1-4 Johnny | -------------------------------- | | (win) (lose) | | 1-5 Testament 2-5 Anji | | 1-6 Dizzy Ending 2 | Ending 1 Once again predictably, the branchpoint for May is the fight against Johnny. Win and you'll proceed on your quest to win the bounty, and you'll eventually come up against Dizzy as your final fight. Lose, however, and Johnny will make you stay behind, where you'll run into Anji, and hints of May's ancestry will be revealed. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ MILLIA RAGE ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ 1-1 Jam | 1-2 Axl | 1-3 May | 1-4 Ky | 1-5 Chipp | 1-6 Venom | 1-7 Zato-1 | ------------------------------ | | (instant kill) (win normally) | | Ending 2 Ending 1 Millia's only mission is to kill Zato, and so her story mode path is very straightforward. The only difference comes in whether you finish Zato off with an Instant Kill or not. Since it's the last fight, the computer AI is fairly good, and you might have some trouble landing the instant kill - if you miss, die on purpose and continue to try again. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ POTEMKIN ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ 1-1 May | 1-2 Chipp | 1-3 Jam | 1-4 Faust | 1-5 Ky | 1-6 Testament | 1-7 Dizzy | ------------------------------- | | (perfected May) (otherwise) | | 2-8 Johnny Ending 1 | Ending 2 Potemkin's alternative ending comes almost as an afterthought - if you won vs. May in the very first battle with a perfect, Johnny will come out and you'll have to take him on. Winning with a perfect can be hard, as even chip damage will disqualify you, so either make sure to FD all of May's special attacks, or try for an IK right off the bat (though since IK mode can drain your health too, you'll have to make sure you do it all very quickly). ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ SOL BADGUY ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ 1-1 Faust | 1-2 Anji | 1-3 Johnny | 1-4 Axl | 1-5 Ky | 1-6 Testament | ------------------------------------------- | | (continues) (no continues) | | 1-7 Dizzy 3-7 Justice | | -------------- 3-8 Dizzy | | | (win) (lose) --------------------- | | | | Ending 1 2-8 Dizzy (continue and win) (win 1st time) | | | ---------------- go to 2-8 Dizzy Ending 3 | | (win) (lose) | | Ending 1 Ending 2 Sol's story mode path is extremely complicated, but it can be summed up as follows - to get to Ending 2, lose continuously to Dizzy, and to get to Ending 3, go through the entire story mode without losing once. In the 2-8 fight, you'll both be Gold powered, and since Sol regenerates in Gold Mode, it can actually be a little hard to get to Ending 2 if the computer's on a low difficulty. To help it along, enter IK mode, where its health drain will counteract your regeneration, and get beaten up. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ TESTAMENT ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ 1-1 Dizzy | 1-2 Baiken | 1-3 May | 1-4 Potemkin | 1-5 Ky | ------------------------ | | (continues) (no continues) | | 1-6 Sol 2-6 Kliff | | Ending 1 2-7 Dizzy | Ending 2 Proceed through with no continues, and Testament will end up fighting Dizzy twice. What a jerk, eh? Otherwise, he'll match up against Sol, with whom he has an odd relationship. However Venom's mission is to actually save Zato, so don't rush in and kill him. Regardless of which path you take you'll fight Millia last (as is only appropriate), but who you fight just before differs, as does the ending. 3. TRANSLATIONS This section is arranged alphabetically by character's name. It contains full translation of all the text that appears in Story Mode. Each section is marked with a set of numbers, such as "1-1". What this means is that this text is what immediately proceeds the fight marked with the same numbers in the previous section, so for example, the text under "1-1" in Anji Mito's path would be his conversation with Ky before their fight. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ ANJI MITO ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ Prologue The residents of a bow shaped chain of islands that once existed in the Pacific Ocean were called the Japanese. At the beginning of the Holy War, the Japanese and their islands were destroyed by the rebellion of the Gears. The few that remained were segregated in a sanctuary in the name of preservation. It was almost as if they were feared. Mito Anji. Japanese. One who searches for the cause of the destruction of Japan. His gait is still persistently light. 1-1 Anji: Hey! You're Sir Ky, yes? Former Holy Order Chief? Ky: Yes, but... Anji: I'm a warrior-in-training. Could I maybe request a match with you? Ky: Interesting, a style I've never seen before... let me witness it for myself. Anji: And... could I ask you to tell me about a man named Sol? Ky: I have nothing to say about him. Anji: Is he really human? Ky: ...! Anji: Thanks. Ky: What are you talking about? Let's go! 1-2 Anji: You're... Axl, right? Rumored to fly around time? Axl: That's right, but... who're you? Anji: Ah, sorry. Last name's Mito, first name's Anji. There's something I want to ask you... Axl: Don't tell me you want to know about the future... Anji: Just one. Have you seen a guy named Sol in the places you fly to? Baiken: Someone possessed... so the dweller has taken over the host. How wretched. Zato: Please... tell her... Millia... Baiken: That's what's so wretched!
